musings of Kimiko Karpoff - Water
Rain 2
and when the rain stops
the air clean
sidewalks washed of dust
ground quenched
creeks babbles mimic the song of the rainfall
I am drawn to that single drop, poised on the tip of the leaf
biding its time for its moment to complete the journey down
and wait for its moment of rising
unless first I stick my tongue out for a spark of refreshment and
change the course of its cycle
the rain drops into me

We Are Water
Those science people say that we are mostly water. Really just big puddles in the cycle of water.
That means that I have been rain. I have watered the garden and washed clean the dusty, oily street in front of my house.
And maybe you are the river that runs through the park, the one we stand up to our knees in to pick blackberries. You are what makes the berries plump.
We have both filled the ocean, many times over. We've been drawn up by sun and splashed over cities. Maybe we held hands as we floated, frozen, onto a mountain slope and then plunged over a fall in the spring sunshine. You sat one day in a pond and were lapped up by a coyote, remembering a distant time in a distant pond when you were lapped up by a creature that no longer exists on earth.
I was in a bath once, with a tiny child being held gently by her mother and then drained away into a sewer. A rat leaped into me and another drank me up.
But that was ok because I once settled as dew onto a meadow flower. And once I was even part of you, consumed in a fruit.
And another time you ran down my face, rinsing away the day.
Scientists are wise to know that we are 80% everything.
That we have touched creation.
That it all flows through us.

Rain
each glorious halleluah drop
a splash of the quenching, cleansing, eroding, flushing, running, splashing, slurping, peeing, juicy, dewy, icy, trickling, dripping, soothing, bouyant, crying, tidal, soothing, flooding, flowing deluge
a manifestation
of the cycle of creation
my body is rain
thanks be to God
amen
