musings of Kimiko Karpoff - Spring
Spring Melt
Muddy waters release from stasis
Joints creak with slow shift to motion
Winter trail flows languidly past spring perch
April 2015

The Moment of Spring
This moment is the one
carried in on a breeze so warm
I almost don't notice
and that sound
a long ago sound
a once-upon-a-time sound
song
bird song
a songbird glorifying the morning
I can almost see as the buds on the trees relax and
burst, slow motion
a languid firework saluting the blue sky
pink confetti bombs caught midburst
among the branches
it is this moment
as my nose begins to twitch rabbitly
and like a daisy my face seeks the sun
my feet crave to feel grass between my toes
and I know it's spring

We Seek Light
We seek light, Holy One
as winter wanes to the promise of darknesses ebbing
we seek Your light
We look east
to catch the earliest morning sun
seeking reprieve from winter's night
We look for signs
green shoots amid the mud of thawing ground
birdsong and a morning walk with fingers free of mittens
We seek lightening
of hearts holding heaviness
of our own winter moments of wavering
We lift grateful faces to Your Luminous Love Light
as our winters wane and darknesses ebb
as our new growth breaks into the light and
we sing into our thaw
We glorify You who has glorified us
with your sure and generous Brilliance. Amen

Spring Unfolding
It's the eruption of pink trees
yellow tulips
green grass
People standing tall, unhunching from cold, unburdened by coats and umbrellas
It's warmth and worms enlivening the soil
Spring is an unfolding
every year an unveiling of hope and potential
an annual witness of Holy Mystery played out in our midst, calling out "come see, the kingdom of God is real!"
smell, taste, hear the mystery unfold
sun
soil
smiles
Amen
